在一个直角三角形里画一个最大的正方形，求这个正方形的面积是多少？直角三角形的两条直角边分别长：6cm和4cm，如下图所示：

解答过程：求正方形的面积，只需要算出它的边长就可以了。可以添加一条辅助线，将正方形两个斜对角相连，可以看到原来的直角三角形被分割成了两个小三角形，正方形的位于三角形内的两条边长恰好成了这两个小三角形的高。设正方形的边长为x，利用两个小三角形面积相加等于原来直角三角形的面积，不难列出方程。

解：设正方形的边长为x cm。

4x÷2+6x÷2=4×6÷2

                2x+3x=12

                             5x=12

                                x=2.4

正方形的面积：2.4×2.4＝5.76（平方厘米），问题得解。
