两个两位数相乘，如果这两个数符合“首同尾补”的特征，即十位数相同（“首”指左数第一位），个位数的和是10（“补”是两个数加起来是10的意思），就可以按下面的速算口诀处理：首加1与首乘，再乘100记在心。再加两个数尾之积，所求结果便分明。我们来看一个例子：

54×56除了可以列竖式计算，还可以这样算：

54×56＝（5+1）×5×100+4×6＝3024。

这种速算方法不仅仅用于两位数，也可以推广到多位数，例如：

592×598这两个三位数的前两位都相同，而个位上的数加起来是10。就可以这样算：

592×598＝（59+1）×59×100+2×8＝354016。
