法国皇帝拿破仑是19世纪的政治家和军事家，他喜欢研究数学问题，在几何学方面达到了很深的造诣。在几何学中，有一种三角形被数学家称为“拿破仑三角形”，这种三角形是拿破仑首先发现的。

拿破仑三角形指的是通过一种方式可以得出一个等边三角形的方法。具体是这样做的：在一个任意三角形的三条边上，分别向外侧作三个等边三角形，再找到出这三个等边三角形的中心点，把这三个中心点相连所得到的三角形仍然是等边三角形，最后得到的这个等边三角形被称为“外拿破仑三角形”（虚线部分）。

若在任意一个三角形三条边上向内侧作三个等边三角形，这时再连结它们的中心点所得到的三角形也是等边三角形，这个等边三角形就也“内拿破仑三角形”。

最奇妙的地方就在于，无论是“外拿破仑三角形”还是“内拿破仑三角形”都是等边三角形。对此，拿破仑最先给予了证明，这也是以他的名字命名这两个等边三角形的原因。
