画出图示如下：红蓝两种颜色代表上坡和下坡的不同路段。

将“甲地到乙地”和“乙地到甲地”合并起来看。那么一共用了8小时，而上坡行的路程和下坡行的路程正好相等，即都为甲地到乙地的距离。

设甲地到乙地为x千米。

根据往返两趟“上坡路所用的时间+下坡路所用的时间＝8小时”来列方程。

x÷3 + x÷6 ＝ 8

x/3 + x/6 = 8

1/2 x = 8

x = 16

答：甲、乙两地公路有16千米。

第二个问题：乙地到甲地的上坡路有多少千米？

设乙地到甲地的上坡路有y千米。

根据乙地到甲地“上坡路所用的时间+下坡路所用的时间＝4.5小时”来列方程。

y ÷ 3 + (16-y) ÷ 6 ＝ 4.5

y/3 + 8/3 – y/6 = 4.5

y/6 = 4.5- 8/3

y/6 = 11/6

y=11

答：从乙地到甲地的上坡路有11千米。
