根据甲每小时比乙多行12公里，可以算出到相遇时所用的时间：63÷12=5.25（小时）

将甲从东站到乙站所用的时间4.5小时，与甲乙两人相遇的时间相比，可以知道3.15公里占东西两站距离的：5.25÷4.5－1= 1/6

算出东西两站相距：31.5÷ 1/6 ＝189(公里)

甲车的速度：189÷4.5=42（千米）
