除号和比号的由来，也就是÷和:的由来。

瑞士学者雷恩于1659年出版的一本代数书中首先使用“÷”表示除法。

后来莱布尼茨主张用“:”作除号，与当时流行的比号一致。

直到现在，有些国家的除号与比号都是用“:”来表示的。

不过，我国对于÷和:的使用还是有所区别的，它们分别用于除法和比，前者是一种运算，后者表示两个数量的一种相对关系。÷在二年级开始接解，而:直到六年级才学到。

除法运算所使用的除号“÷”被称为雷恩记号，因为它是瑞典人雷恩在1659年出版的一本代数书中首先使用的。

1688年，他这本书译成英文出版，这个记号得以流行起来，直到现在。

1666年，莱布尼茨在他的一篇论文《组合的艺术》中首次使用“÷”作为除号，后来逐渐通用，现在德国、前苏联等国一直在使用。
